Noble men—the wet nurses cast me at their door,

Alone, so their kindness became my companion.

For they accustomed me to kindness, out of generosity,

And they seated me in the places of honor at gatherings.

And they honored me among my people while I was a youth,

And they clothed me in the finest garments.

And they tormented my heart with every affliction,

And they occupied my mind with prolonged anxieties.

And here I am today, hoping their kindness will return,

    Despite a tyrant and a rival's scheming.
