قَمر سراهُ مِن اسكدار
Into my blaze he cast my heart—
My heart I cast amidst the gloom
a moon who journeyed by night from Üsküdar.
Of a moon that shed its light from Skedar.

The night passes, while my eyes,
The darkness passes, and my eyes
in love for him, watch the stars.
In his love graze upon the meadows.

of a promise from him the hand of my waiting.
The promise from him of my waiting.

He reaps, so made excuses for
him, yet he will not accept my apology.
Himself, not pleased with my excuses.

Does he know what I have endured?
I have endured, or is he unaware?
Or is he unaware of my plight?

Confused, with him I pass my days,
tell my right from my left.
Not knowing my right hand from my left.

إِلّا التَخَلُق بِالنَفار
A gazelle whose nature would have
His manners refused but to wear
nothing but a skittish disposition.
The garment of aloofness.

all others, my choice fell.
The world he was my chosen one.
