لَعَليperhaps I may أَجتَنيreap ثَمَراتfruits وَعدكyour promise
Grant me refuge through reunion after your absence,
Draw me near through your communication after your distance
That I may reap the fruits of your promise.
That I may reap the fruits of your promise
وَأَسألكand I ask you القَليلa little مِنof التَلاقيmeeting
وَلَكنbut خَشيَتيmy fear مِنof سوءِthe harshness of رَدكyour reply
And I ask you for but a brief meeting,
And I ask little of our meeting
Yet I fear the harshness of your reply.
Yet I fear the ill of your rejection

May the All-Merciful water the days when we served
The Merciful watered days we once drank
Wine upon the roses of your cheek,
In them, at ease, on the roses of your cheek

And sometimes we kissed the daisies of your mouth
And we kissed the ruby of your mouth a while
In trepidation, and bent the bough of your figure.
On a slender branch and bending bough of your neck
وَنَقتَبلand we welcome السُعودauspicious stars لَناfor us بِصرحin a palace

And in a palace we welcomed our auspicious stars;
And we met good fortune for us in a palace
In their constellations appeared the moons of your good fortune.
In its towers appeared the moons of your joy
نَجرُرwe trail فيهِin it أَذيالhems التَصابيyouthful dalliance
وَنَنشُقand we inhale عرفهُits scent مِنfrom طيبthe fragrance of ندكyour incense
There we trailed the hems of youthful dalliance,
We dragged in it the trains of intimacy
And breathed its scent from the fragrance of your incense.
And we plucked its fragrance from your sweet scent
أَلاindeed أَنَّthat النَعيمbliss لِدونsurely less than يَومa day
تَواصلunion وَالجَحيمand hell لِدُونsurely less than صَدكyour rejection
Indeed, bliss falls short of a day
Beware that bliss is for less than a day
Of union, and hell falls short of your rejection.
Of communion, and hell for less than your rejection
