By my life, my pride is not in poetry,

But in keen swords and long spears,

And in noble lineages—the tongue of Time recites

Their noble deeds into the ears of the nights.

And in giving gold without reminding others of favors,

In proportion to my possessions and my circumstances.

    وَأَبحر مِن يُفاخر لَمع آل

    And from my clan the seas draw water;

And the seas of whoever boasts are a mirage's gleam.

Then tell me, O son of Abu Madas's daughter,

Do you boast of a paternal uncle, or a maternal uncle?

And you strut in robes of arrogance—woe

To the likes of you! You have been stripped of noble qualities.

And you cast aspersions on the house of Manjak,

Yet they are people of virtue and perfection.

Does the sky split at a dog's barking,

Or does Sirius, the Crossing Star, care about it?

At times you revile the Chosen One's companions,

And at times you claim love for the Family.

And everyone hates you, just as we have hated

Old sandals for our feet [reading uncertain].

Does he seek swords from his family,

    Forged to strike men's necks?
