وَدَجنة لِنُجومِها

وَدَجنة لِنُجومِها

نار الوَغى تَتَوقَدُ

And a dark night, whose stars

In its darkness, the stars,

blaze with the fire of battle.

like war, ignite,

قَد جالَ فيها رامِحٌ

قَد جالَ فيها رامِحٌ

وَتَلا سهاها الفرقدُ

A spearman has ranged through it,

A horseman has wandered there

and al-Farqad followed its Suha.

and shone his separation upon it.

فَكَأن لامع بَرقِها

سَيفاً يَسل وَيُغمَدُ

سَيفاً يَسل وَيُغمَدُ

So it is as though its lightning's gleam

So it seems its lightning’s brilliance

were a sword drawn and sheathed.
