There is no pleasure in death's novelty, O Bishr,

Yet the novelties of every new thing are delightful.

So there is no harm: God, O Bishr, has indeed led me

To a land where I dwelt beside His caliphs.

So I am not distraught, even if a way of life has passed away,

Nor am I afraid of what death has decreed.
