بَتَّ الخَليطُ قوى الحَبلِ الَّذي قَطَعوا

إِذ وَدَّعوكَ فَوَلَّوا ثُمَّ ما رَجَعُوا
The companions severed the strands of the rope they cut,
The plot has severed the rope of that clan who bid you adieu, then never returned.
When they bade you farewell and turned away, then did not return.
And they gave you news of a clear estrangement.
وَآذَنوكَand they informed you بِبَينٍof separation مِنfrom وِصالِهِمtheir companionship
وَآذَنوكَ بِبَينٍ مِن وِصالِهِم
فَماso not سَلَوتَyou ceased grieving وَلاand not يُسليكَconsoles you ماwhat صَنَعواthey did
فَما سَلَوتَ وَلا يُسليكَ ما صَنَعوا
And they told you of separation from their companionship,
So you did not ask, nor will what they did console you.
So you have not ceased grieving, nor does what they did console you.
O son of Tawil, how much goodness you have preferred for us.

O son of al-Tawil, how much good you have bestowed
While you bear what you have been burdened with.
Upon us—and you are equal to the burden laid upon you.
We enjoy and stay in prosperity as long as you remain for us.
نَحظىwe enjoy favor وَنَبقىand we remain بِخَيرٍin well-being ماas long as بَقيتَyou remain لَناfor us

We enjoy favor and remain well as long as you remain with us.
But if you perish, we have no refuge of hope.
But if you perish, there is no hope of refuge.
