فَماso no بَيضَةٌan egg باتَspent the night الظَليمُthe male ostrich يَحُفُّهاhe shelters it
فَما بَيضَةٌ باتَ الظَليمُ يَحُفُّها
وَيَجعَلُهاand he places it بَينَbetween الجَناحِthe wing وَحَوصَلَهand his crop
وَيَجعَلُها بَينَ الجَناحِ وَحَوصَلَه
So no egg that a male ostrich spent the night sheltering,
No egg spent the night with the male bird brooding over it,
And placing between his wing and crop,
Tucking it between his wings and gripping it tight,
بِأَحسَنَlovelier مِنهاthan her يَومَon the day قالَتshe said تَدَلُّلاًcoquettishly
بِأَحسَنَ مِنها يَومَ قالَت تَدَلُّلاً
تَبَدَّلtake another instead خَليليmy beloved إِنَّنيindeed I مُتَبَدِّلَهtaking another instead
تَبَدَّل خَليلي إِنَّني مُتَبَدِّلَه
Is lovelier than she was the day she said coquettishly:
That was lovelier than she when sweetly she said,
“Take another, my beloved, for I am taking another.”
"Change me, my darling! For I am changing you."
