فَلِعَينيَّ مِن جَوى الحُبِّ غَربُ
Distress from Salama has returned to the heart,
My heart has returned to tranquility after suffering
so my eyes stream with tears from love's burning anguish.
Yet my eyes see no solace in love's fever
وَلَقَدand indeed قُلتُI said أَيُّهاO القَلبُthe heart ذوpossessed of الشَوthe longing (initial fragment of الشوق)
وَلَقَد قُلتُ أَيُّها القَلبُ ذو الشَو
قِlonging (final fragment of الشوق) الَّذيwhose لاnot يُحِبُّloves حُبَّكَyour love حِبُّa beloved
قِ الَّذي لا يُحِبُّ حُبَّكَ حِبُّ
And indeed I said: O heart full of longing,
And I said: "O heart prone to passion
whose love no beloved matches,
He who loves not your love feels no love"

indeed, parting from Sulayma has drawn near,
Lo! The parting of Sulayma is near
and the quest for union has grown difficult.
And hopes of reunion grow difficult
