Ah, will Time awaken from its drunken stupors,

and the night-visitor of dreams disperse from its eyelids,

and a blade fierce on both edges gleam in my palm,

behind a dust-cloud dripping with streaming blood?

And I have a companion of ʿAbd Shams; when he names his lineage,

he ascends the highest summit of great nobility.

He went far away; then war was roused, its fang turned

against me by Time, which once inclined toward peace.

So may the clouds never cease to water him whenever they pour down,

with the moisture in the mouths of the gleaming ones.
