A dye of time upon my two temples has not faded,
The dye on my temples has not faded, despite time's passage,
and a youthful prime, from life's first sweetness, has not passed.
And the past of my life's spring remains ahead.

And a soul angry with the days; unwilling
My soul is angry at the days - it refused
are their vicissitudes to exchange resentment for contentment.
To replace its discontentment with acceptance.

When I admonish the nights, they do not respond
to a languid reproach, like the drooping of drowsiness.
With a complaint, deaf like the stupor of sleep.

It diffuses the scent of musk in its grasp.

Are paid by white clouds in sudden downpours.

When the branch of youth withers and you grow gray,
and you turn gray, seek no ascent to glory.
Do not seek to rise to glory.

Seeking whom I love, or what fate has apportioned.

In it, the steps of the open sands and horizon.

Make it turbid, even if clear at other times.

Even if pressing adversity awakens and kindles them.

I am patient when the reddish spear clashes,
yet I am distraught if my companions depart and turn away.
I panic if the ally shows his back and withdraws.

So I became blind, frowning eyebrows knitted.

I came upon the darkness - its branches are thickets -
then he signaled to me with both eyes and flashed a glance.
It signaled to me with its eyes and blinked.

I sense the specter of death imposing itself.”

one that has readied a calm heart for the day of terror.
Prepared for the day of panic, hanging slack.

If you entreat he turns his cheek and winks.

For he loaned good conduct, and was openhanded.
