    We are the doves, and your bounty the collars;

    so be gentle: the burden of your bounty cannot be borne.

    كوم براها الوخد والأعناقُ

    O best of those to whose gates were driven

    high-humped camels, worn lean by swift strides and rapid pacing!

    O Baha al-Din, O king, in whom have flourished

    the virtues, and whose ancestry is noble!

    يوما وغير فؤاده الخفاقُ

    All but the one who hopes for your bounty will fail

    one day; the heart that trembles is not his.

  9. يا من يرق لسائليه وفي الوغى

    يقسو ويصلب والدماء تراقُ

    O one who is tender toward his petitioners, yet in battle

    grows stern and unyielding while blood is shed!

  10. قد كنت أطرق قبل مدحك معشرا

    واليوم يغشى بأبي الطراقُ

    I used to call on people at night, before praising you;

    today the night visitors throng my door.

  11. فتهن عيدك وابق ما هبت صبا

    وصبا إلى أحبابه مشتاقُ

    So enjoy your feast day, and live on as long as the east wind blows

    and a longing lover yearns for those he loves.
