بك يا شهاب الدين أصبح مشرقا

من منهج الآمال كلّ بهيمِ

من منهج الآمال كلّ بهيمِ

Through you, O Shihab al-Din, now shines

With you, O Shahab al-Din, the path of hopes has become radiant

every dark stretch of the path of hopes.

For every terrified soul

ما أنت إلا طود حلم راسخ

ما أنت إلا طود حلم راسخ

وسحاب عارفة وبحر علومِ

وسحاب عارفة وبحر علومِ

You are nothing but a firmly rooted mountain of forbearance,

You are but a steadfast dream mountain

a cloud of kindness and a sea of learning.

And a knowing cloud and sea of knowledge

لك راحة ما أن تزال بباطن

لك راحة ما أن تزال بباطن

تسدي النوال وظاهر ملثومٍ

تسدي النوال وظاهر ملثومٍ

Yours is a hand that never ceases, with its palm,

You have an ease that never ceases within

to bestow bounty, while its back is kissed.

Bestowing bounty, while outwardly silent

بأبي وبي أخلاقك الغرّ التي

بأبي وبي أخلاقك الغرّ التي

كالرّوض ريض بوابل مسجومِ

كالرّوض ريض بوابل مسجومِ

May my father and I be ransom for your radiant virtues, which are

By my father and myself, your noble manners

like a garden made lush by a pouring downpour.

Are like a garden, satiated by seasoned showers

يا من غدا الإحسان منه مخيّما

يا من غدا الإحسان منه مخيّما

في خير أعراق وأكرم خيمِ

في خير أعراق وأكرم خيمِ

O you whose beneficence has pitched its tent

O you whose kindness has become a dwelling

in the finest lineage and the noblest character.

Among the best of lineages and most generous tents

اليت أني لا أكّلف حاجتي

اليت أني لا أكّلف حاجتي

إلا كريما مثلك ابن كريمِ

إلا كريما مثلك ابن كريمِ

I have sworn never to lay my need

I task my need to none but the generous like you

upon any but a generous man like you, son of a generous man.

A noble son of a noble sire

وأرى العظيم القدر يذخر رفده

وأرى العظيم القدر يذخر رفده

لدفاع كلّ عظيمة وعظيمِ

لدفاع كلّ عظيمة وعظيمِ

And I see the man of high standing reserve his bounty

And I see mighty destiny hoarding its succor

to ward off every great calamity and mighty foe.

For the defense of each mighty one, each grand

فأعنّ على دهري بعون مساعد

فأعنّ على دهري بعون مساعد

وانظر إلى فضلي بعين رحيمِ

وانظر إلى فضلي بعين رحيمِ

So help me against my fate with sustaining aid,

So aid me against my fate with helping succor

and look upon my merit with a merciful eye.

And look upon my excellence with merciful eye

خيلي وحقك كالخيال من الطوى

خيلي وحقك كالخيال من الطوى

تمسي كما تضحي بغير قضيمِ

تمسي كما تضحي بغير قضيمِ

My horses, by your honor, are phantomlike from hunger;

My horses and your right are like mirages of dune

they reach evening, as they do midmorning, without dry fodder.

Dawning and darkening without lack

حتى كأن الناس قد أمنوا الهجا

حتى كأن الناس قد أمنوا الهجا

وكأن عبدك من تجار الرومِ

وكأن عبدك من تجار الرومِ

So much so that people seem safe from satire,

Until people feel assured before the assault

and your servant seems to be one of the Roman merchants.

And your servant is as Roman merchants

أنعم به وأسلم على رغم العدا

أنعم به وأسلم على رغم العدا

جم الندى في غِبطة ونعيمِ

جم الندى في غِبطة ونعيمِ

Be generous with it, and remain safe despite your enemies,

Favor him and greet despite the enemies' throng

rich in bounty, amid happiness and bliss.

Rolling bliss and bounty in waves

فالمجتدي منك الشعير بشعره

فالمجتدي منك الشعير بشعره

يا ابن المظفر ليس بالمحرومِ

يا ابن المظفر ليس بالمحرومِ

For he who begs you for barley with his verse,

So he who seeks the barley grain from you

O son of al-Muzaffar, is not left empty-handed.

O son of al-Muzaffar, is not deprived
