  1. قالوا فتى الخل مستهام

    بشِعره وابنِهِ المثَّل

    They said al-Khall’s lad is besotted

    with his poetry and his exemplary son.

  2. وما له في الجميع شيء

    الشعر نغل والابن أنغل

    Yet he has no share in either:

    the poetry is a bastard, and the son still more so.
