قل للعميد خذ الضرير ولا تكن

قل للعميد خذ الضرير ولا تكن

ممن يضيّع دخله مجانا

ممن يضيّع دخله مجانا

Tell the chief: seize the blind man, and do not be

Tell the dean to take the blind man and don't be

among those who squander their income for nothing.

One who wastes his income freely

علقه إن جحد الصحيح بكعبه

علقه إن جحد الصحيح بكعبه

واكتب عليه من مع الضمان ضمانا

واكتب عليه من مع الضمان ضمانا

Hang him by his heel if he denies the truth,

Hang him if he denies the truth with his heel

and record a guarantee due from him, along with the guarantee.

And write on it "Who joins guarantee, guarantees"

فبفيه مدبغه إذا ضمَّنتها

فبفيه مدبغه إذا ضمَّنتها

فضلت قِحاباًُ عنده ودِنانا

فضلت قِحاباًُ عنده ودِنانا

For in his mouth is a tannery; if you farm out its revenues,

So his mouth tans if you guarantee it

it would surpass the whores and wine jars at his place.

It preferred scraps with him and loans
