وأنت دون الكرام أولى بي
Spreading your lofty virtues among humankind is my habit.
I spread your virtues in the land as my habit,
And you, rather than other noble men, have the greatest claim on me.
Though you, without generosity, are more deserving of me.

O rain for suppliants' drought if they despair,
O rain of the barren outcasts, if they despair,
and lion of warriors' battles, not of the forest!
And lion of the brave warriors, not of the forest.

You conquered my poverty when it scowled at me,
My poverty overcame me when you frowned upon me
with an all-conquering army of your bounty.
With a flood of your gifts, O conqueror.

through which you exchanged my drought for fertile plenty!
Changing my barrenness through them into lushness.

The oath of the gracious Lord never left
granting favors to suppliants and ease to seekers.
Those who appeal for favor and the seeking of requests.

I have leaned on Him toward a cloud of dewy mist,
pouring down, trailing the hem of glory;
Yearning for the tail of the noble steed, a rain-laden cloud.

O Quraysh, generous of hand, kinship
from the man we look to, far removed from fault.
Is nearer than the distant hope, far from shame.

and sometimes like bitter sap to an enemy.
And at times to a foe like aloe.
