مدحك يا بدر الدجى قوتي

مدحك يا بدر الدجى قوتي

Say to Jamal al-Mulk on behalf of his uncle:

Tell the king's beauty about his uncle

Praising you, O full moon of the night's darkness, is my sustenance.

Your praise, O full moon of night, is my strength

فلا تدعني اليوم في خجلة

فلا تدعني اليوم في خجلة

يا سيّدي مع ستِّ يا قوتِ

يا سيّدي مع ستِّ يا قوتِ

So do not leave me today in embarrassment,

So do not leave me embarrassed today

O my lord, with Lady Yaqut.

My master, with my lady, O my strength

وانفذ بما في رقعتي عاجلا

وانفذ بما في رقعتي عاجلا

أكن إليها غير ممقوتِ

أكن إليها غير ممقوتِ

And send at once what my note requests,

And comply with what is in my message urgently

so that I may not be loathed by her.

Let me not be undeserving to her

فلست كالغير على ما أرى

فلست كالغير على ما أرى

من جودك الجمّ بمبخوتِ

من جودك الجمّ بمبخوتِ

For, unlike others, I am not—as far as I can see—

For I am not like others, as I see

favored by your abundant generosity.

Of your abundant generosity, unstingy
