O Baha al-Din, whose bounty is hoped for,

And you of keen mettle and pure lineage,

O you worthy to wear every praise,

And free of every reproach and disgrace.

You are the most openhanded of mortals when

Asked, and the most mindful of a neighbor’s rights.

You are rain that enriches the poor with its bounty,

And a lion beneath the dust stirred up.

Nay, by your kindness, which has replaced

    Your petitioners’ poverty with prosperity:

I humor no soul, in matters of fair dealing, among

Mankind; and Sa‘d al-Farrash knows my house.

And I swear—without dissembling with you in this—

Whoever hopes in you has no bundle in the rogues’ trade.

So remain in prosperity, honor, and glory,

And eminence, exalted rank, and power.
