  1. وجدوا عود أبي الص

    قر على الغمز صليبا

    They found the wood of Abu al-Saqr

    unyielding under pressure.

  2. كلما زادوا عذابا

    زادهم صبرا عجيبا

    Whenever they increased his torment,

    he answered them with still more astonishing patience.

  3. وكذا المسك إذا ما

    زاد سحقا زاد طيبا

    And so it is with musk: whenever

    it is ground more, it grows more fragrant.
