تَثنيbend أَنامِلُهاtheir fingertips شِرعَstrings المَزاهيرِthe lutes
تَثني أَنامِلُها شِرعَ المَزاهيرِ
And hands of pure lineage lent her aid,
And her happiness was brought by hands unsoiled,
Their fingertips bending the strings of lutes,
Their gently bent fingers plucking flowers' stems,
مِنfrom كُلِّeach غَيداءَa supple maiden فيin تَفريدِهاher singing صَحَلٌhuskiness
مِن كُلِّ غَيداءَ في تَفريدِها صَحَلٌ
كأَنَّas though أَعكانِهاher belly-folds طَيُّthe rolling الصَواميرِthe scrolls
كأَنَّ أَعكانِها طَيُّ الصَواميرِ
From each graceful maiden with a husky note in her singing,
From every dewy branch in its solitude a gazelle,
As though her belly-folds were rolled scrolls.
As if her wrists were the curves of waterwheels.
