مضىpassed away وزراؤكمْyour ministers موتاًby death وقتلاًand by killing
ولمand did not يَكُbe منهمُfrom them فيin ذاكَthat حيلَهْrecourse
Your ministers passed away through death and killing,
Your ministers passed away, dead and killed,
and they had no recourse in that.
None of them in that had any tricks.
وعاشand lived وزيرُكمْyour minister هذاthis زماناًfor a time
فآذىso harmed الناسَthe people مدّتُهُhis tenure الطويلَهْlong
And this minister of yours lived on for a time,
And this minister of yours lived an era,
so his long tenure harmed the people.
His long duration harmed the people.
وكانand was أبوكyour father فوقَabove الشمسِthe sun نوراًin radiance
وقدand indeed كسفَتْهُeclipsed him عقدتهُhis knot الثقيلَهْheavy
And your father surpassed the sun in radiance,
Your father was above the sun in light,
yet his heavy knot eclipsed him.
Dimmed by the heavy knot he tied.
خزائِنُهُhis treasuries المصونةُsafeguarded صِرْنَbecame نَهْباًplunder
علىat يدهِhis hand وعُدَّتُهand his supplies الجزيلَهْabundant
His safeguarded treasuries became plunder,
His guarded treasures became prey to looting,
at his hands, as did his abundant supplies.
By his hand and his abundant tools.
فعاجِلْهُso act swiftly against him بعزلٍby dismissal أوor بقتلٍby killing
وَحِيٍّswift فهيَfor that is عادتُكyour custom الجميلَهْbeautiful
So hasten to dismiss him, or to kill him
Hurry to dismiss or kill him,
swiftly—for that is your beautiful custom.
For that is your good habit.
وكايلْand match in measure شُؤْمهُhis ill omen صاعاًa ṣāʿ (a dry measure) بصاعٍfor a ṣāʿ
ومنand whoever يغلِبْprevails فإنthen indeed لهto him الفضيلَهْthe honor
And match his ill omen, measure for measure,
And measure his ill-omen 'saa' by 'saa',
and whoever prevails has the honor.
Whoever prevails - for him is the merit.
