Whoever measures wealth against knowledge is indeed

blind of insight and false in his judgment.

You always tend knowledge in person,

while a deputy tends wealth on your behalf.

And wealth is plundered or perishes through misfortune,

while knowledge has no plunderer to fear.

And knowledge is an engraving firmly set in your heart,

while wealth is a shadow departing from your courtyard.

The former's flow grows more abundant with spending,

forever, while the latter runs dry when spent.
