1. المبدأ الأول في

    علوما فرد أحد

    The first principle in

    the sciences is single, one.

  2. وحدته في نوعه

    وهو كثير في العدد

    Its unity lies in its kind,

    yet it is many in number.

  3. واثنان في حكمتنا

    أب قديم وولد

    And in our wisdom there are two:

    an ancient father and a child.

  4. تتلوهما ثلاثة

    نفس وروح وجسد

    Three follow them both:

    a soul, a spirit, and a body.

  5. وأربع أركاننا

    قد زال عنهن الحسد

    And four are our elements;

    envy has departed from them.

  6. ألّف منها واحد

    فدام فينا وخلد

    One was compounded from them,

    so it endured among us and lasted forever.

  7. فجدّ في استخراجك ال

    رمز فمن جدّ وجد

    So strive in your deciphering of the

    symbol, for whoever strives finds.
