Our thorough burning at the outset of the

calcination is a fixed spirit that does not fly.

And the calx, if put into our aludel—the

white one—is a spirit sifted through silk.

So fashion for your bodies, to lift them,

wings from their spirit in the blazing fire.

And whenever you make their spirits heavier,

it lifts them higher toward the ether.

    فحلَّها أمر علينا يسير

    And spiritualize the bodies as you dissolve them;

for their dissolution is an easy matter for us.

And strip the spirits bare as you bind them

to their body, as a rope-twister knots a tightly twisted cord.

This, then, is the sum of what we know

of dissolution and coagulation, in a well-known saying.

And the craft, compared with what

God has taught us, is but a paltry reward.

So rejoice in the wisdom you have been granted,

and enrich your hereafter with it, for that is the final destination.

And what God has prepared in the Garden of

Refuge for us is the great reward.
