so hasten to bury him and earn your reward.

They were captured and stripped after

    being slaughtered—what an outrage!

as sinners are driven to the place of final gathering.

    As though its camphor statues

were perfumed with musk and ambergris:

    silver when hands peel it,

and unwrought gold when it is left unpeeled.

    from almonds and ʿAskari sugar:

two close kin within a single girdle—

God be praised for what one girdle holds!

Heavy of girdle, slender of belly,

    neither fat nor lean;

as though bubbles had been fitted

    with cloaks left unbuttoned.

You see them, through the thinness of their skins,

    revealing their hidden filling.

    from Paradise, swimming in al-Kawthar.
