May good be yours! You have accustomed me to a habit of yours,

with which I have grown up since my earliest days:

taking comfort in my nearness and delight in my service,

and having kindly regard for my peace of mind.

I had hoped that your station would rise,

and my fortunes would grow with it like a waxing crescent,

and that I would rise to attain my wishes and claim fulfillment of

the promises of Time, so fond of delay.

And your aloofness has troubled me; would that it were

aloofness from preoccupation, not from weariness.

So if this is a habit of yours that you keep up,

then grant me leave, so that I may bridle my camels.

Otherwise, show me kindness again, for faded are

the landmarks of my hopes, and my scope has narrowed.

For one like me will not accept a stay in humiliation,

nor patiently endure a reversal of standing with you.

And one like you will not accept the squandering of my service,

or the dashing of the far-reaching hopes placed in him.
