toward me; lucid speech delights them.

I never tire, nor does the listener tire.

    between adversaries, while bones rattled.

and fingers extend toward me for my splendor.

My goal is beyond pursuit, nor is there in my racecourse

a runner, nor anyone drawing the bow of my excellence.

Lofty on the saddlebacks of my glory, while my foes

I bestow tongue-tiedness on the foremost, seeking

where fluency and the spacious courtyard lie.

Words, like the gardens the breeze spills forth

at dawn, quelling the blaze of hidden rancors.

I begin and return, in defiance of my foes,

    with resolves that burrowed through the precincts of eminence;

and I attained them, where the station lies far away.

Why should I lower my shoulders, when the worst of what

thick necks bow to is covetous desire?

And when I surge across the wilderness with my riding-camels,

their testimony to eminence is convincing.

And when I cast down my girth-straps within your precincts,

your fruit is honey-sweet, and your smiling welcome splendid.

A face from whose surfaces gladness pours:

the risen day grows wretched at its sight.

within them, the beds of survival are harsh, cramped confines.

this you do, even if time is an adversary.

and it has grazing grounds upon the enemy's frontier.

for which the paths of destruction are broad highways—

wolf-like, with the beat of her running unbroken.

for them, watering-places are passed by despite thirst.

gushing in its cuts—not a cooing dove.

water for whose hospitality battles are reproached.

upon it the gardens' skeins are unveiled.

by dark-lipped morning clouds, milk-dry yet streaming.

and the keen sword complains of your fingers.

their pages black, then necks bow low,

clotted blood; your judgment dispels calamities.

upon which veils are cast for beauty.

while white swords are folded, and the trustworthy one protects.

And a gentle nature, before which is disarmed

the mail-clad warrior, after its onslaught.

    ستجمُّها عوداً وفضلُكَ شائعُ

    And I see my days have thinned in sweetness;

you will replenish it anew, and your bounty is widespread.
