Indeed, glory never ceased seeking her worthy match
The heights did not cease seeking the able one for it
until she found peace in your flourishing assembly hall.
Until it settled for the inhabited domain of your abode

Its pathways are spacious, its watercourses lush;
Wide courtyards, green bowers surrounding it
from it, the seeker of your bounty roams the gardens of eternity.
From which the gardens of eternity pour their bounty upon you

You have risen far above the reach of aspirations;
You have risen above the horizon of hopes
who, then, can vie with you, or who can come near you?
So who competes with you, who equals you?

Honor will not let you settle at any station
Glory refuses that you dwell in any station
until you clothe your hater in the robe of disgrace.
Until you don the cloak of disgrace and shame

Why do the crests of your sea never grow still?
What is wrong with your sea that its ships do not ply?
And how could they, when you have not reached your aims?
How can they ply when they have not reached your ports?

Nor have you drawn the spearpoint out of a liver,
You have not unsheathed the sword of thrust from a gall bladder
or from a vengeful heart that has long been pierced.
From a heart and an arm whose striking is imminent

Rejoice in attaining your wishes: they offer their brides
Receive good tidings of attaining your wishes, their brides
to you, yielding, with your hopes among them.
Lead to you accompanied therein by your desires

You have indeed pierced the backs of horses, leaving them weary;
You doubted the backs of horses grown weary
and if they complain, wealth ransoms them, itself complaining of you.
And if you doubted, then wealth will dispel your doubt

You hurl them across deserts whose pages lie unfolded;
It casts at you unfolded sheets
they neither tire nor seek to trouble you.
So do not weary, do not seek to defy

Bright night-roving stars lose their way in those trackless wastes,
The comets wander confused in their depths
and the wind plays there, or races you.
As the wind toys with them or races with you

When the sweeping winds rise in their courses,
When passions rise high in their climaxes
their mounts tire before they can tire you.
Their steeds kneel before you out of exhaustion

You spur them on as the sun drinks from darkness's basin,
It urges them on while the sun drinks from the basin of mist
and press onward while night's darkness shelters you,
And it disappears while the darkness of night shelters you

Until you cleave the night with the first light of dawn
with a cheerful, radiant face that greets you.
A rising you greeted and morning that revives you

When the stars appear, they behold a marvel,
When the stars appear and behold with wonder
and see how far they fall short of your heights.
They have seen castles beyond your qualities

They see you farther than them in rank and extent
and in the span of honor and glory, when they vie with you.
And loftier in honor and glory as you ascend

And they did not see their hands beneath the western veil
They have not seen by their spread in the west their hands
until they saw your endeavors above their resting place.
Until they saw above their abode your ambitions

They veiled their faces with the west's veil in shame,
The west felt shy before you and veiled itself
since their reach could not attain even part of what is in you.
Since by its extent it attained not some of what is in you

When the steeds spanned what is between the four points

To reach the echo of my passion meeting you

I would shoe them with my inner eyelids, though too little for them
I shod them with my eyelids and said to them
is the lining of my eyes as a shoe, when we turn you our way.
"Bear the burden of my eyes when I shut them"

I wasted their reins with kisses and spread them out
my cheek, when you turn them so they bring you near.
As cheek pillows when you draw them near

How many nights black as the night gloom hid them
its dense wing spread wide, has slaked your thirst.
Its darkness wings vast, sheltering you

Clad in trailing mourning, its star balking and bewildered,
My tears drawing the mourning near the wandering stars
it bends over you with skirts that hide you.
Inclining toward you with trains that hide you

But for the blaze of resolve's meteor, your far reaches would not have enthralled
Had not the spark of resolve ignited
the heart of darkness through night journeys within them.
The heart of the gloom with the Pleiades wherein are your sides

The stars pause in fear along their courses,
For the comets there is a pause of fear in their orbits
yet no alarm has halted you along yours.
But no hesitation held you back in your courses

Raging, you hurl waves whose bubbles
It seethes in anger, hurling waves whose consequence
are stars that mirror you in glory's radiance.
Are planets in the glory of your triumph speaking of you

You took to the saddle of long-necked Mahri camels, dwelling there,
You were accustomed to the stew of the cooking pots resting
and spurned your inhabited home and your family.
And your quarter inhabited and your family secure
