وبعزمتيكَ الأمنُ والوَجَلُ
In your two palms lie sustenance and life's appointed end;
In your peace is sustenance and death
And by your two resolves come safety and dread.
And in your resolve is security and dread

And yours are the battalions, set ablaze,
For you are the battalions aflame
And bright swords blaze among the heads.
And the eggs in the nests ignite

And your judgment advances where no spear
And opinion marches where there are no questions
Advances to its goal, nor any champion.
It marches according to its whim and there is no hero

And your noble deeds, if tallied, bewilder
And favors, if confined
Both detailed reckonings and totals in their count.
To their count in detail and total

Forever, while kisses throng its back.
Forever and inhabits its back are kisses

And gatherings where speech is hinted gently
Gently, and eyes lower before them.
And below it the blunt are blind

Through you the world submitted to its master,
Through you the world submitted to its lord
And its plains and mountains yielded.
And the plain and mountain complied

The boughs of life swayed, heavily laden
The branches of life bowed heavily
With their burden, while faith's bough stood straight.
Burdened while the branch of faith is balanced

And the days restored their splendor;
And the days restored their joy
So kingship is tender of stem and youthful.
So the sovereign's fresh branch is picked

The foes grew intent on them, but were driven back
The enemies lusted for them, so they repelled them
By a vigilant one, deliberate even in his haste.
Awake in their haste is respite

Like a torrent, were it not a succession of surges,
Like a flood, had it not been averted
And like the night, were it not layers of shadow.
And the night, had it not been shadows

And you terrified time's misfortunes, taking vengeance
And you routed the doubt of fate vengefully
On its guile; its hardships are now tame.
From its ploy, so its calamities are subdued

If your judgment crept into the joints of spear-shafts,
Had your opinion seeped into the heels of the palm trees
Neither excessive length nor slackness would touch them.
No luxuriance or barrenness would have touched them

Or had your glow been for the gazelle
Twilight would veil the radiance of her brow.
No shyness would have veiled the radiance of its brow

Your beautiful deeds are held up as the example.
Through your good deed example is set

You governed humankind with judgment clothed
You shepherded the people with an inclusive opinion
In firm resolve, with neither tedium nor weariness.
With resolve, no fatigue or boredom

You watch when they are heedless and stay awake when
They sleep; you are forbearing whenever they act foolishly.
They sleep and you dream whenever they are ignorant

You who, without your extension
The paths of guidance, and the ways would grow obscure.
The paths of guidance wandered and the roads were ambiguous

In every doctrine from its creek

Are streams and from its views are flames

So they almost come to pass before the act.
They almost ignite before the action

As though it were lined with fire.
As if lined with fire

And a hand pouring like a cloud-dark night.
And a hand like the blackest night, relaxed

Tattered in convention, outstretched
Girded with glory and cloaked in it.
Belted with glory,含inclusive

Does reproach pass through the inlet of his hearing.
Nor does nonsense fill his hearing

By success and words followed by deeds

His hand stroked the climates
So from it the downpouring cloud swept onward.
So the incidental rain poured down

And his ambition flirted with glory
So cowardice and miserliness fled from it.
So cowardice and stinginess concurred

That things are caused by their causes

If a cloud was stingy or a moon harvested
Then his right hand and brow replace them.
His right hand and brow are substitutes

By unforced intuition, free of preoccupation.

So opinion is like the start of speech
And speech, like a thrust, is improvised.
And speech like improvised stabbing

Deaf, in its pole is no hollow
Towering, with no bend in its flank.
Howling, in its bend no curve

The silent ones, though not confined
And speaking, yet without foolish talk.
And the speakers, though not wrong

From a group who just spoke and did not act?

If they lowered their heads, they inspired awe; if they spoke,
If they were silent, they were dignified, and if they spoke
They spoke fair words; and if they ruled, they were just.
They spoke fair, and if they ruled, they were just

Against their perpetrators were the tricks

His insight outpaced his consideration
Like lightning, with neither delay nor sloth.

A band rushed to keep up with his status
Heedless of his reach, and without understanding.

They befriended the courtesan, so the dignified one triumphed
By an unhurried one, shod in lightning.
Slow with lightning, heated

If drinking water is a shortcoming
Neither a first nor a second draught would touch him.
No rivulet or runnel would attain him

So to you is the glory of religion, instructing
With gratitude: I break it off, yet it continues.
With gratitude—I endow it perpetually

For praise is chosen and selected,
For praise is selective and chosen
And gratitude is singled out and sifted.
While gratitude is inclusive and assembled

Bright, and your mind is at ease and glad.
