في الحل والعقد سر لا يباح به

في الحل والعقد سر لا يباح به

وفيك بكتوم هذا السر مشروحُ

In dissolution and coagulation lies a secret not to be divulged.

In solving and binding there's a secret not to be revealed

And within you, the concealed part of this secret is made clear (reading uncertain).

And in you, concealing this secret, made clear

فكل نامٍ فمن تركيب منعقد

فكل نامٍ فمن تركيب منعقد

هباؤه بعد هذا الحل مشروحُ

هباؤه بعد هذا الحل مشروحُ

Every growing thing, then, is bound together through composition;

For every sleeper is a composite undone

its dust lies spread out after this dissolution.

Its vapor after this solving made clear

وما تروّح في تحليله جسد

وما تروّح في تحليله جسد

إلا تجسّد في تركيبه روحُ

إلا تجسّد في تركيبه روحُ

And no body becomes spirit in its dissolution

No body diffuses in its analysis

without a spirit becoming embodied in its composition.

Unless embodied in its synthesis, a soul
