من تابَ عن شُربِ المُدا

من تابَ عن شُربِ المُدا

مِ وعن مقارفةِ الحرامِ

مِ وعن مقارفةِ الحرامِ

If someone has repented of drinking wine

He who repents from drinking wine

and of committing what is forbidden,

And from indulging in forbidden acts

وسَمَتْ به النفسُ العزو

وسَمَتْ به النفسُ العزو

فُ عن التَّوَرُّطِ في الأَثامِ

فُ عن التَّوَرُّطِ في الأَثامِ

and his abstinent soul has lifted him

And resolves to avoid sins

above entanglement in sins,

And getting entangled in vices

فاستحي أنْ تلقاهُ مُن

فاستحي أنْ تلقاهُ مُن

تجعاً لإهداءِ المُدامِ

تجعاً لإهداءِ المُدامِ

then be ashamed to meet him seeking

Would be ashamed to meet Him

a gift of wine.

While returning to offer wine

وابني أَحقُّ بما طلب

وابني أَحقُّ بما طلب

تَ لديَّ من بَلَلِ الأوامِ

تَ لديَّ من بَلَلِ الأوامِ

And my son is better suited to provide what you sought

My son deserves more

from me to quench your burning thirst.

Of what I sought from cups of wine

فاستسقهِ فلديهِ ما

فاستسقهِ فلديهِ ما

يُغنيكَ عن سَقْي الغَمامِ

يُغنيكَ عن سَقْي الغَمامِ

So ask him for drink, for he has what

Ask him, for he has enough

will leave you no need of the clouds' rain.

To suffice you instead of rainwater

واسرقْ من الأيامِ حظ

واسرقْ من الأيامِ حظ

ظَكَ من حَلالٍ أو حرامِ

ظَكَ من حَلالٍ أو حرامِ

And steal from the days your share

And steal your share of days

of what is lawful or forbidden;

Be it from the lawful or the forbidden

فالدهرُ ليس ينامُ عن

فالدهرُ ليس ينامُ عن

كَ وأنتَ عنهُ في منَامِ

كَ وأنتَ عنهُ في منَامِ

for time never sleeps heedless of

For time does not sleep

you, while you sleep heedless of it.

While you are asleep to it
