كُراتُ دَسْتَنْبُويَةٍ نُضِّدَتْ

كُراتُ دَسْتَنْبُويَةٍ نُضِّدَتْ

Balls of dastanbuya fruit were arrayed,

Chestnut spheres were lined up

varying in shape and appearance.

Of different shapes and sights

فمستديرُ الشكلِ ذو سُمْرَةٍ

فمستديرُ الشكلِ ذو سُمْرَةٍ

كأنَّهُ جُمْجُمةُ العنبرِ

كأنَّهُ جُمْجُمةُ العنبرِ

One, then, is round in shape, with a dusky hue,

The round shaped one with brownness

as though it were a skull of ambergris.

As if it were a piece of amber

ولابسٌ للنورِ ذو نُمرةٍ

ولابسٌ للنورِ ذو نُمرةٍ

والحسنُ كلُ الحُسْنِ للأَنْمرِ

والحسنُ كلُ الحُسْنِ للأَنْمرِ

And one, clothed in light, bears mottled markings—

Wearing light with spots

and beauty, all beauty, belongs to the mottled one.

Beauty belongs to the leopard

وعسجديُّ اللونِ ذو صُفْرَةٍ

وعسجديُّ اللونِ ذو صُفْرَةٍ

ضُمَّ إِلى تِرْبٍ لهُ أحمرِ

ضُمَّ إِلى تِرْبٍ لهُ أحمرِ

And a golden-colored one, with a yellow hue,

The blond colored one with yellowness

was joined to a red companion of its own age.

Added to red soil

كأنّهُ المِرِّيخُ في لونِه

كأنّهُ المِرِّيخُ في لونِه

قارنَهُ في بُرْجِه المُشْتَرِي

قارنَهُ في بُرْجِه المُشْتَرِي

As though it were Mars in its color,

As if it were Mars in its color

with Jupiter conjoined with it in its zodiacal sign.
