وسَفرْجَلٍand a quince عُنِيَtook care المصيفُsummer بحفظهِto preserve it
وسَفرْجَلٍ عُنِيَ المصيفُ بحفظهِ
فكساهُso it clothed it قبلَbefore البَرْدِthe cold خَزَّاًsilk أخضرَاgreen
فكساهُ قبلَ البَرْدِ خَزَّاً أخضرَا
And a quince—summer took care to preserve it,
so it clothed it in green silk before the cold.
صَوْغٌa wrought form منof الذهبِgold المصَفَّىrefined نَشْرُهُits fragrance
صَوْغٌ من الذهبِ المصَفَّى نَشْرُهُ
مسكٌmusk إِذاwhen حضرَit enters النَّدِيَّthe gathering تعطَّرَاit becomes perfumed
مسكٌ إِذا حضرَ النَّدِيَّ تعطَّرَا
A form wrought of refined gold, whose fragrance
is musk; when it enters a gathering, the gathering is perfumed.
يحكِيit resembles نهودَthe breasts الغانياتِbeautiful women وتحتَهاand beneath them
يحكِي نهودَ الغانياتِ وتحتَها
سُرَرٌnavels لهنَّbelonging to them حُشِينَwere filled مِسْكاًwith musk أذْفَرَاstrongly fragrant
سُرَرٌ لهنَّ حُشِينَ مِسْكاً أذْفَرَا
It resembles the breasts of beautiful women, beneath which
are their navels, filled with strongly fragrant musk.
يُزْهَىit takes pride بملمسِهin its feel وطيبِand the pleasantness of مذاقهِits taste
يُزْهَى بملمسِه وطيبِ مذاقهِ
ومَشمِّهِand its scent ويروقُand it delights عينَكَyour eye منظرَاin appearance
ومَشمِّهِ ويروقُ عينَكَ منظرَا
It takes pride in its feel and its pleasant taste,
and its scent; its appearance delights your eye.
