وَآلى يَميناً في الإِقامَةِ يَمكُثُ
A night clothed the horizons in the robe of its darkness,
And a night clothed the horizons in the robe of its darkness,
and swore a solemn oath to remain there and linger.
And swore an oath that it would linger on.

أَكابِدُهُ وَالخَوفُ بِالنَفسِ يَعبَثُ
I tarried, my heart within it a gathering place for sorrow;
I stayed, my heart within it a circle for grief;
I struggled through it while fear toyed with my soul.
I wrestle with it, while fear toys with my soul.
أُصَبِّرُI urge to be patient روحيmy soul لاdo not تُراعيbe frightened واصبِريand be patient

سَيدركه نور الصَباح فَيحنَث
I schooled my spirit in patience: Take no fright; endure.
I urge my soul to patience: “Do not fear, and be patient.”
The light of morning will overtake it, and it will break its oath.
Morning’s light will overtake it, and so it will break its oath.
