أَنا الطِرِمّاحُ وَعَمّي حاتِمُ

I am al-Ṭirimmāḥ, and my uncle is Ḥātim.

I am the sharpshooter, and my uncle is Hatem,

And my venom is potent, and my tongue is fierce.

My name is Shaki, and my tongue is defiant,

وَالبَحرُ حَيثُ تَنكَدُ الهَزائِمُ

وَالبَحرُ حَيثُ تَنكَدُ الهَزائِمُ

And I am the sea where rainclouds yield scant rain.

And the sea where defeats become miseries,
