اخنى عليه الشهر والدهر

اخنى عليه الشهر والدهر

ومحسا محاسن وجهه الشعر

ومحسا محاسن وجهه الشعر

The month and time have ravaged him.

The months and time reproach me,

And hair has effaced the beauty of his face.

Yet his beautiful face elates my verse,

من يصف ما قد دهاه يقل

من يصف ما قد دهاه يقل

لا تعجبوا قد يكسف البدر

لا تعجبوا قد يكسف البدر

Whoever describes what has befallen him will say:

He who describes what allures him errs,

Do not marvel; even the full moon may be eclipsed.

Marvel not, for the full moon itself may blush.
