    The earth is peacock-like,

And the sky is a ringdove’s breast,

Smiling, revealing the fragrance of lo-

ve before a steadfast, lovesick lover.

And the roses are pearls that grow—

How lovely are pearls that grow!

Yet in my eye there is a mote

From the bloom of ravaging gray hair.

When I wept the blood of the hea-

rt over the beloved now gone,

Gray hair laughed upon my cheek

With the laughter of a wayward gloater.
