The days were blessed by the radiance of your face,
The days rejoiced in the radiance of your face,
and the years were adorned by your continued life.
And the years adorned themselves with your permanence.
وتصرَّفَتْand moved freely بكَwith you فيamong المعاليthe heights of excellence هِمَّةًan ambition
تعياare baffled بهاby it الأفهامُthe minds والأوهامُand the imaginations
And an ambition has borne you through the heights of excellence,
Your will moved with purpose through the heights,
before which minds and imaginations falter.
Understood by perceptions and imaginations alike.
ولقدand indeed فَرَشْتَyou spread مهادَthe bed of عدلِكَyour justice فاغْتَدَتْand so they began

And indeed, you spread the bed of your justice, and so
You laid out the carpet of your justice, so it flourished -
lions and gazelles began arriving in succession.
Visitations of tranquility and relaxation flowed forth.
وافتضَّand deflowered سيفُthe sword of عُلاكَyour glory كلَّevery مدينةٍcity

And the sword of your glory deflowered every city
The sword of your supremacy conquered every virgin fortress,
still virgin, with despair's seal upon it.
Placing upon it the seal of despair.
هذيthis زرنجُZaranj استغلقتshut itself fast وتمنَّعَتْand held out
فكأنَّهاso, as though it إلاّexcept عليكَto you حرامُforbidden
This is Zaranj: it had shut itself fast and held out,
This was Ziranj, shut up tight and unassailable -
so it seemed forbidden to all but you.
As if, but for you, it would remain untouched.

So you conquered it, made it free for the taking, and bestowed it
You opened it up, made evident its secrets, and granted it
upon a band of men who are the servants of your courtyard.
A company who serve obediently at your gate.

And you arrived while the days recited among humankind
You arrived while the days were singing across the land
a verse that the days recite beautifully:
A poem whose melody the eras celebrate.
