ريقُ الحبيبِ كريقِ المُزْنِ والعِنَبِ
أَذَاقَنيmade me taste ثمراتِthe fruits of اللَّهْوِpleasure والطَّرَبِand rapture
أَذَاقَني ثمراتِ اللَّهْوِ والطَّرَبِ
The beloved’s saliva is like the moisture of rainclouds and grapes.
It made me taste the fruits of pleasure and rapture.
وقدand already سَبَتْhave stolen منِّيَfrom me الأيَّامُthe days صفوتَهاtheir best
وقد سَبَتْ منِّيَ الأيَّامُ صفوتَها
فكيفَso how أَهربُI flee منهاfrom them وهيَwhile they are فيin طَلَبيpursuit of me
فكيفَ أَهربُ منها وهيَ في طَلَبي
And the days have already robbed me of their best.
