ياO منyou who تشابهتresembled one another المحاسنُthe graces والعُلىand eminence
يا من تشابهت المحاسنُ والعُلى
فيهِin him وأصبحتِand became القلوبُthe hearts برسمِهِat his disposal
فيهِ وأصبحتِ القلوبُ برسمِهِ
O you in whom beauties and lofty virtues resemble one another,
O you, in whom graces and eminence are alike,
and to whom hearts have become devoted;
And at whose disposal hearts have now come to be:
فالخُلقُfor the character منfrom كخَلْقِهِlike his appearance والخَلْقُand the appearance مِنْfrom
فالخُلقُ من كخَلْقِهِ والخَلْقُ مِنْ
هُhim كلفظِهِlike his speech والشِّعْرُand the poetry منهfrom him كاسمِهِlike his name
هُ كلفظِهِ والشِّعْرُ منه كاسمِهِ
his character is like his form, and what comes from
For his character is like his appearance, and his appearance
him is like his diction; his poetry is like his name.
Is like his speech, and his poetry is like his name.
وغذاءُand the nourishment جسميmy body منfrom سماحِthe generosity يمينِهِhis right hand
وغذاءُ جسمي من سماحِ يمينِهِ
وغذاءُand the nourishment روحيmy soul منfrom بدائعِthe marvels نظمِهِhis verse
وغذاءُ روحي من بدائعِ نظمِهِ
My body’s nourishment comes from the largesse of his right hand,
And my body's nourishment comes from the bounty of his right hand,
and my soul’s nourishment from the marvels of his verse.
And my soul's nourishment from the marvels of his verse.
لاmay ... not زِلْتَyou cease to be بينَamid سعادةٍhappiness وزيادةٍand increase
لا زِلْتَ بينَ سعادةٍ وزيادةٍ
وسلِمْتَand may you be safe منfrom سيفِthe sword الزمانِTime وسهمِهِand its arrow
وسلِمْتَ من سيفِ الزمانِ وسهمِهِ
May you remain amid happiness and continual increase,
May you ever remain amid happiness and growing prosperity,
and may you be safe from Time’s sword and arrow.
And be safe from Time's sword and its arrow.
