يا بدرَ صَدْرٍ بنيسابورَ مطلعُهُ

يا بدرَ صَدْرٍ بنيسابورَ مطلعُهُ

وبحرَ جودٍ لأهلِ الفضلِ مترعُهُ

وبحرَ جودٍ لأهلِ الفضلِ مترعُهُ

O full moon of eminence, whose rising-place is Nishapur,

O full moon of Neishabour's breast, its rising place,

And sea of generosity, whose brimming bounty is for people of merit.

And sea of generosity for people of merit, its watering place,

سقيت كرميَ ماءً فيه أربعةٌ

سقيت كرميَ ماءً فيه أربعةٌ

منَ المياهِ وخيرُ الماء أنفعُهُ

منَ المياهِ وخيرُ الماء أنفعُهُ

You watered my vine with water containing four

You have watered your vineyard with four kinds of water,

Kinds of water—and the best water is the most beneficial:

The best and most useful of them being the fourth kind.

ماءُ الحياةِ وماءُ الوجهِ يشفعُهُ

ماءُ الحياةِ وماءُ الوجهِ يشفعُهُ

ماءُ الشبابِ وماءُ الوردِ يتبعُهُ

ماءُ الشبابِ وماءُ الوردِ يتبعُهُ

The water of life, paired with the water of the face;

The water of life, the water of the face to plead for it,

The water of youth, followed by rosewater.

The water of youth, the water of roses coming after it.

بقيتَ ما بقيَتْ نفسٌ وما طَلَعَتْ

بقيتَ ما بقيَتْ نفسٌ وما طَلَعَتْ

شمسٌ وما سارَ من مدحيك أبدعُهُ

شمسٌ وما سارَ من مدحيك أبدعُهُ

May you endure as long as a soul remains, and as long as there rises

You will remain as long as a soul remains and a sun rises,

A sun, and as long as the finest of my praise of you circulates,

And the most eloquent of my praises of you keeps moving.

للعرفِ تصنعُهُ والخير تزرعُهُ

للعرفِ تصنعُهُ والخير تزرعُهُ

والمجدِ تجمعُهُ والمدحِ تسمعُهُ

والمجدِ تجمعُهُ والمدحِ تسمعُهُ

For the kindness you do and the good you sow,

You do it for virtue, you cultivate goodness,

And the glory you gather and the praise you hear.

You gather glory, you hear praise.
