Indeed, the lover yearned for the beloved,

as the sick man yearned for the physician.

And the tormented heart yielded to love,

as youth yields to gray hair.

Ah, how lovely the nighttime passage of a breeze,

kindred to the soul—what a kinsman you are!

As though the spirit it brings were the fragrant remembrance of the

chief, the lord, the peerless man of letters,

Abu Nasr ibn Mushkan, who has indeed

    become without equal among mankind.

May God perfect His blessing upon him,

and never deprive him of joy and pleasure.
