على لوعةٍ تستغرِقُ اللبَّ والذهنا

I shall send a verse that unites truth and beauty,

I will send a verse that brings together truth and beauty

Amid burning anguish that engulfs reason and mind.

Over a grief that occupies the mind and heart

غدوتُ نحولاً واصفراراً كتبنةٍ

غدوتُ نحولاً واصفراراً كتبنةٍ

وفوكَ بجاديُّ غدا يجذِبُ التبنا

وفوكَ بجاديُّ غدا يجذِبُ التبنا

I have become as thin and yellow as a piece of straw,

I have become thin and sallow like parchment

And your mouth is a garnet that now attracts straw.

And spring tomorrow will pull the hay
