ودونكَ بيتاً قد تحلَّت به النُّهى

ودونكَ بيتاً قد تحلَّت به النُّهى

كما يتحلَّى معصم بسوارِهِ

كما يتحلَّى معصم بسوارِهِ

And here is a verse with which reason has adorned itself,

Without you a house is adorned

as a wrist adorns itself with its bracelet:

As a wrist is adorned by its bracelet

إذا لم يكنْ في منزلِ المرءِ حُرَّةٌ

إذا لم يكنْ في منزلِ المرءِ حُرَّةٌ

تدبِّرُهُ ضاعت مصالحُ دارِهِ

تدبِّرُهُ ضاعت مصالحُ دارِهِ

If there is no freeborn woman in a man's home

If there is no free woman in a man's house

to manage it, his household's affairs go to waste.

To manage it, the interests of his house are lost
