    عَذْبِ السَّجايا طَيِّبَ النَّشْرِ

    And a day of good fortune, lovely in its cheer,

    Sweet in disposition, pleasant in fragrance;

    My eye was not irritated by its harm, nor

    Did my heart take flight at the hand of terror.

    And it did not frighten me—no—nor did it distress me,

    As is the habit of days in doing evil.

    I likened it, wrested from the hand of the

    Vicissitudes fraught with evil and harm,

    To that palatable milk which

    Flows from between dung and blood.
