    The Eid prayer: whoever is obliged to attend Friday prayer—

    command him to perform it; he is the free man—so heed this—

    adult, sane, and resident. Say:

    Disagreement is reported regarding the slave and the traveler.

    وَبِالقِيَامِ سِتَّةً بِلاَ مِرَا

    In the first rak‘ah, say seven takbirs, including the opening one;

    and six, including the takbir on rising, without dispute,

    in the next; between each pair he pauses long enough

    for the follower to say the takbir—know this.

    And he raises both hands at the first takbir,

    that one alone, as recommended; [recite] “Glorify ... the Most High,”

    and “The Sun” aloud in the second rak‘ah; add this:

    He delivers a sermon afterward, as on Friday, and indeed

    ثُمَّ يُخَلِّلُ بِهِ وَقَد عُلِم

    he opens his two sermons there with takbir;

    then intersperses it throughout them; and it is known

    that it is better in the open countryside

    than in mosques, without doubt,

    except in Mecca; its time is the forenoon,

    until noon, as is clear to all.
