Indeed, she whose remembrance enraptured the heart

Has left arrows among the ribs.

A tender maiden—a glance almost makes her cheek bleed.

Who will grant me a cheek that bleeds beneath a glance?

Slender-waisted, her sash hanging loose, a bashful maiden,

She made your heart, once composed, lovesick.

Her wrap is stretched tight around her hips,

And her anklet, too—so tight it almost snaps.

She withheld from you her kisses and her conversation.

What would it cost her if she granted you a word?

How can he be driven off, or return with his thirst unslaked—

A thirsty man who has reached a watering place, complaining of thirst?

I have no hope of union with Maryam, nor

Does my heart forget Maryam even for a moment.
