قَد شاعَ في الناسِ بَل في الصُّحفِ قد كُتَبا

قَد شاعَ في الناسِ بَل في الصُّحفِ قد كُتَبا

أنَّ المَغَافِرَ والأجوَادَ قَد غُلِبَا

أنَّ المَغَافِرَ والأجوَادَ قَد غُلِبَا

It has spread among the people—nay, it has been written in the papers—

It has spread among the people, nay in the papers it was written

that the Maghafir and the Ajwad have both been defeated.

That the forgiving and the generous were overcome

ومَن على غَلبِهِ الأقوامُ قَد شَهِدتُ

ومَن على غَلبِهِ الأقوامُ قَد شَهِدتُ

لا يستطيع أبداً لهواً ولا لَعِبَا

لا يستطيع أبداً لهواً ولا لَعِبَا

And he to whose defeat by the peoples I have borne witness

And I have witnessed those whom the people overpowered

can never engage in diversion or play.

Can never pursue vanity or play again
