إِنَّ كَيهَيدِى مِن أشَرِّ البِلاَدِ

إِنَّ كَيهَيدِى مِن أشَرِّ البِلاَدِ

ولَيَالِيه دائماتٌ السَّوَادِ

ولَيَالِيه دائماتٌ السَّوَادِ

Indeed, Kaédi is among the worst of towns,

And its nights are perpetually black.

وذَوُوهُ سُودٌ وفِيهِ بَعُوضٌ

وذَوُوهُ سُودٌ وفِيهِ بَعُوضٌ

لَسعُدُ مانعٌ مَذَاقَ الرُّقَادِ

لَسعُدُ مانعٌ مَذَاقَ الرُّقَادِ

And its people are black, and in it are mosquitoes

Whose sting denies a taste of sleep.

وبه الفيلُ والضَّفادِعُ فِيهِ

وبه الفيلُ والضَّفادِعُ فِيهِ

وبه لِلبُعوضِ أصخَبُ نَادِ

وبه لِلبُعوضِ أصخَبُ نَادِ

And in it is the elephant, and in it are frogs,

And there the mosquitoes have the noisiest gathering place.

وبِهِ بَذرُ كل دَاءٍ دَوَوٍّ

وبِهِ بَذرُ كل دَاءٍ دَوَوٍّ

فَهوَ رَبعُ الخَنَا وَمغنَى الفسادِ

فَهوَ رَبعُ الخَنَا وَمغنَى الفسادِ

And in it lies the seed of every grievous disease;

So it is the abode of lewdness and the dwelling of corruption.

وبه الموجُ بالأعاجِم يَطفُو

وبه الموجُ بالأعاجِم يَطفُو

وبِهِ الجَهلُ مستقيمُ العِمَادِ

وبِهِ الجَهلُ مستقيمُ العِمَادِ

And there the waves rise with non-Arabs,

And there the pillar of ignorance stands upright.

مَنعَ اللهُ أرضَه كُلَّ خَيرٍ

مَنعَ اللهُ أرضَه كُلَّ خَيرٍ

من حَياً رَائحٍ وآخرَ غَادِ

من حَياً رَائحٍ وآخرَ غَادِ

May God deny its land all good

From rain that comes at evening and other rain at dawn.
