أَلاَ عُج مِن حَيَازِيمِ المَطِيِّ

أَلاَ عُج مِن حَيَازِيمِ المَطِيِّ

عَلَى قَبرِ الإِمَامِ الحَضرَمِيِّ

عَلَى قَبرِ الإِمَامِ الحَضرَمِيِّ

Come, turn aside from the riding camels’ breasts

Behold, how strange are the ruins of the dwellings

Toward the grave of Imam al-Hadrami.

Upon the tomb of Imam Al-Hadrami

وَحَيِّ مَنَازِلاً قَد حَلَّ فِيهَا

وَحَيِّ مَنَازِلاً قَد حَلَّ فِيهَا

فَإنَّ سَفَاهَةً أَن لاَ تُحَييِّ

فَإنَّ سَفَاهَةً أَن لاَ تُحَييِّ

And greet the dwellings where he dwelt,

And greet the abodes wherein he once resided

For it is folly not to greet them.

For it is ignorance not to pay your respects

وَدُر فِيهَا فَبِالدَّوَرَانِ فِيهَا

وَدُر فِيهَا فَبِالدَّوَرَانِ فِيهَا

تَسَامَى لِلمُؤمِّل كُل حَيِّ

تَسَامَى لِلمُؤمِّل كُل حَيِّ

And circle through them, for by circling through them

Circulate around them, for in revolving about them

Every living being rises high for the hopeful seeker.

Each aspiring soul is exalted on high

وَزُرهُ فَإنَّ رَائِرَهُ جَدِيرٌ

وَزُرهُ فَإنَّ رَائِرَهُ جَدِيرٌ

بإعطَاءِالعُلُوِّ مِن العَلِيِّ

بإعطَاءِالعُلُوِّ مِن العَلِيِّ

And visit him, for his visitor is worthy

And visit his grave, for his fragrance is worthy

Of exaltation granted by the Most High,

Of giving exaltation from the Most High

وإصلاَحِ الجَنَانِ وَبُرءِ مَا في

وإصلاَحِ الجَنَانِ وَبُرءِ مَا في

أَدِيمِ الجِسمِ مِن دَاءٍ دَوِيِّ

أَدِيمِ الجِسمِ مِن دَاءٍ دَوِيِّ

And of a heart set right, and healing for whatever lies in

And the healing of souls, and the curing of all

The body’s skin—any grievous disease.

Afflictions that plague the body from head to toe

وَلاَ عَجَبٌ إِذَا مَا كَانَ ذَاكُم

وَلاَ عَجَبٌ إِذَا مَا كَانَ ذَاكُم

بِزَورَةِ مَاجِدٍ حَبرٍ تَقِيِّ

بِزَورَةِ مَاجِدٍ حَبرٍ تَقِيِّ

And it is no wonder if all that comes

It is no wonder that you all find this

Through visiting a noble, learned, pious man:

In the sanctuary of the venerable erudite sage

وَلَىٍّ عَالِمٍ حَبرٍ شَرِيفٍ

وَلَىٍّ عَالِمٍ حَبرٍ شَرِيفٍ

لَهُ اجتَمَعَت كَرَاماتُ الوَلِيِّ

لَهُ اجتَمَعَت كَرَاماتُ الوَلِيِّ

A saint, a scholar, a learned and noble man,

The learned Imam, the noble saint

In whom a saint’s miraculous graces are gathered,

Who gathered within him the miracles of sainthood

حَبِيبِ الهَاشِمِىِّ وَمُقتَفِيهِ

حَبِيبِ الهَاشِمِىِّ وَمُقتَفِيهِ

وَنِعمَ فَتًى حَبِيبُ الهَاشِمِيِّ

وَنِعمَ فَتًى حَبِيبُ الهَاشِمِيِّ

Beloved of the Hashimite, and following in his footsteps.

Beloved of Al-Hashimi and his emulator

And how fine a youth is the Hashimite’s beloved!

What a splendid fellow, beloved of Al-Hashimi

وَوَارِثُهُ امتِثَالاً وَاجتَنَاباً

وَوَارِثُهُ امتِثَالاً وَاجتَنَاباً

وحَامِي دِينَهُ بِالمَشرَفِيِّ

وحَامِي دِينَهُ بِالمَشرَفِيِّ

And his heir in obedience and abstention,

His heir in obedience and avoidance

And defender of his religion with the Mashrafi sword.

Protector of his faith with Al-Mashrafi

سَقَى بَلَداً تَضَمَّنَهُ وَلِيٌّ

سَقَى بَلَداً تَضَمَّنَهُ وَلِيٌّ

سُحُوحٌ بِالغَدَاةِ وَبِالعَشِيِّ

سُحُوحٌ بِالغَدَاةِ وَبِالعَشِيِّ

May succeeding rain water the land that holds him,

Watered a land that contained a saint

Pouring copiously in the morning and evening.

Generous morning and eve without cease

وبَارَكَ في سَوَاكِنِهِ بِجِاهِ الن

وبَارَكَ في سَوَاكِنِهِ بِجِاهِ الن

نَبِيِّ وَجَاهِ أصحَابِ النَّبِيِّ

نَبِيِّ وَجَاهِ أصحَابِ النَّبِيِّ

And may its dwellers be blessed, through the standing of the

And blessed its dwellers through the grace of the Prophet

Prophet, and the standing of the Prophet’s companions.

And the companions of that Prophet

عَلَيهِ مِنَ الإِلهِ صَلاَةٌ أذكَى

عَلَيهِ مِنَ الإِلهِ صَلاَةٌ أذكَى

مِنَ النَّسرَينِ والمِسكِ الذَّكِيِّ

مِنَ النَّسرَينِ والمِسكِ الذَّكِيِّ

Upon him be a blessing from God, more fragrant

Upon him from Allah prayers more fragrant

Than wild roses and fragrant musk.

Than musk and sweetest perfume
